On our survey trip to the Minahasa pensinsula, in the north of Sulawesi, in early 2026 we found a very high number of the most exciting endemic birds and tested the logistics of leading tours here as part of a longer birding tour to this and other parts of Sulawesi along with the nearby island of Halmahera. On our West Papua exploratory birding tour in 2025 we found a surprisingly high proportion of target species, given how short the trip was, and found that seeing many of them was nowhere near as difficult or arduous as is commonly thought. With wide open spaces, varied habitats, clear air, good food and comfortable hotels, birding in Uzbekistan is an absolute pleasure. On our exploratory tour in May 2024 we found all of the target species as well as enjoying a very wide representation of the rest of the region’s avifauna.
