On our West Papua exploratory birding tour in 2025 we found a surpirsingly high proportion of target species, given how short the trip was, and found that seeing many of them was nowhere near as difficult or arduous as is commonly thought. With wide open spaces, varied habitats, clear air, good food and comfortable hotels, birding in Uzbekistan is an absolute pleasure. On our exploratory tour in May 2024 we found all of the target species as well as enjoying a very wide representation of the rest of the region’s avifauna.
